Replanting

Joan O KaNE asked 15 years ago

I have just replanted a Beech hedge, to help it along what do I need to do. Also there is very little growth at the bottom of the hedging, do I need to cut it down, to improve the growth and is now the time to be doing that.

Keep a new hedge free of weeds for a strip 50cm wide on either side. Water during any dry spell of more than about five days.

Beech will eventually send down growths to fill the base but maybe not for years. You may need to plant small plants along the base to cover the ‘legs’.
