scutch in lawn

Bernadette Conneely asked 13 years ago

As our lawn was full of scutch grass we sprayed the full lawn with weedfree 360 last September. Last week-end we raked off all the dead grass. Would we leave the lawn now until new growth appears and spray again? or what would you suggest.

Weedfree 360 contains glyphosate, like Roundup, and it will kill grass in one go if applied evenly.

The weed grass is unlikely to be scutch, more likely a creeping bent grass, but it amounts to the same.

If you want to be absolutely sure of a good kill, wait a few weeks and spray again.

Then you can over sow the dead sod, without digging or cultivating … as long as you are happy with the eveness of the level of the lawn area. If not, you have to level before re-sowing.

Waiting until seed grasses sprout before the second spraying will give a very clean seedbed for sowing the lawn seed.
