Small Apples

Phil Darcy asked 13 years ago

My apples are small this year. I sprayed the base with weed killer earlier and I wonder if that could be the reason.

The weedkiller is unlikely to have had any effect.

Apple trees tended to set a lot of fruit this year but dit not get a great year to grow and the result is small apples.

For future reference, thin the fruit to about one apple per 15cm of branch, on average. So a 90cm branch might carry six apples of good size and flavour.
