I sowed my lawn last year, 1/2 acre, one side of the lawn grew but the other didnt, the side that did not grow is always quite wet . Is there any thing i can do on a budget to get my lawn going, also is there any plants,shrubs or trees that are really good for soaking up water, my garden was a bog land so its always wet.

Two options: either get the wet area drained or plant the area to alder which likes wet ground and leave it as garden woodland, which will also save you the trouble of mowing that area. And with a half-acre, you can afford to use ground for woodland and wildlife. Alder looks very natural. Plant as small whips from a forest nursery in winter, which is inexpensive. Plant about two metres apart at random, not in straight lines.
