The three bigger plants were Veronicastrum Fasination and 2 lupins as I only had one lupin of my own left this year. I was able to divide it into 2 and now have divided these 2 new ones with the carving knife, as recommended by Monty !

Risking putting up 3 photos I took today in the garden. The tulips are all starting to colour and I love the chinonodoxa

Trying this journal again to see if photos load..

After a long day I finally have the back garden all powerwashed down from the paths and tops of the bed walls. It is an extremely slow job and the garden had gotten quite dirty and green over the year so a job worth doing. By the end I was absolutley soaked as the rain just poured out of the heavens but happy to have it done now. Decided to uncover the table and chairs as the worst of the winter as passed now and the gaarden is looking much nicer and tidier now. also noticed one of my tree ferns starting to throw out some fronds already.

Hello all, i worked for the long weekend when the weather was kind to me, which wasn’t the best down here in West Cork, and replanted most of my curvy bed in the front grden by the house, it looks pretty i think, or could i possibly fit in some more, i would love suggestons or ideas from you all.

ps. been in touch with Gerry as i still didn’t receive my magazine, so hopefully it will get sorted soon

Have a lovely evening,

This Cowslip is spreading or seeding itself in to the grass. there was a Wall flower leaning out over this piece of grass, so I guess that prevented this  being cut down by the mower.

Tought I’d post some colour from some of my spring bulbs yesterday in one of the brief sunny moments. Dreadful weather here today with some very heavy downpours on hailstones. Hoping we get some dry weather again at the weekend at least.

Species pelargonium, winter grower, succulent stems.Growing in gritty mix, watering well when its grows, and little bit when sleeps.

In amongst the bright spring colours, I love the paler flowers too.

I’m meant to be doing college assignments, but with the brighter evenings who could blame me for wanting to be out strolling in the garden.

Love this Omphalodes. Have it planted in full shade and it’s bulking up nicely now.

At around six o’clock today the heavens just open with hailstone, thunder and lightening.

Couldn’t get my errands done quickly enough today so I could get out to the garden. What a super day, and even a bit of heat in that sun.

Did a bit of tidying up, and weeding down behind the Retaining Bed at the Upper Pond. Still had loads of dead leaves of Crocosmia in at the dividing wall. They look awful, especially when the new shoots are very evident now. In this area I have a lovely Erysimum. It had flopped over into the grass over the winter months. So it had to be staked with two bamboo canes. And of course it was only then that I realized my Roscoea was hiding underneath it all. The Erysimum is about 4ft tall and very bushy. I wonder if I were to cut it back a bit now would I lose the flowers for later on?

Planted out my primulas/primroses beside the Lower Pond, and my Trillium that I bought at the special plant fair a couple of weeks ago was planted where it’ll get dappled shade.

I also planted all my indoor Hyacinths down at the Spring Border. There were a few gaps to be filled.

I did my last clean-up of the Hosta bed beside the Lower Pond, and spread netting (and slug pellets) all over it to deter Holly, or any other visiting cats! But no doubt she’ll find somewhere else to go. The new primroses were planted at the edge of the pond. They won’t get too much sun even during the summer as they’re in close to the North-facing wall. I watered everything in the greenhouse.

What a mess I left on the grass! Although, it’s a Happy Mess!

A beautiful spring day for the last day of March. Yesterday, we had hailstones, thunder and lightening, but today wall to wall sunshine. The month of March was a pick and mix of weather. The Lane is moving away now from the spring bulbs to the flowering spring shrubs and one in particular, Ribes speciosum, also known as the Californian fuchsia. The red flowers are somewhat unusual for this time of year and not what one would expect for a ribes.

Camellias, Corylopsis and Pieris are all flowering at present and a thirty five year old Magnolia sprawling across the grass with it’s goblet flowers. I brought  Magnolia soulangeana with me when I moved to this garden in 1987 and it has grown into a fine tree.
