Month: March 2018

The sun is shining here, quite pleasant in the sun, warm in the greenhouse. Tomato plants in the house have grown quite a lot. Musa plants in greenhouse not looking as good as a week ago. While it is pleasant here now, there was a light shower of snow  in the hills just outside the town. I am getting to know , now a bit how to operate Garden.ie.

Craig do you know why when you put up photos with your mobile and need to edit them e.g. rotate them, why the then look sideways from a laptop?

So I’ve put up a journal from my mobile and now I notice on my laptop that they are sideways on that but normal view on my mobile. I had to edit them before I posted them initially as they were sideways on the mobile?

Also how do you put up an album…..I know how to add to a gallery etc but if you want to view an album or upload one all you get is numbers of that photo and not the actual photo….or am I doing something wrong?

Delighted to see it up and running and hopefully the more we use it the easier it will be 😉

Hi all just testing the new site fingers crossed. Hope we do not have not too many losses after the snow. I have not been able to get out yet to have a look.

I got a big surprise tonight to see the new website.spent a lovely day in the garden.finally positioned my new willow in marions garden. Also put out azaelea thsat i bought for Anna at Christmas. Discovered it was actually five slips so divided them! Hope now i can send this!

Thanks to Peters instructions, I think I may have successfully posted a photo with this short journal. The more we post, the quicker the transition from old to new will be. I’m not a great fan of ‘change’. But at the same time, I’d rather not be left behind.

A few things up. Just testing if I can do this really!

Now that spring is finally here, it’s time to get outdoors and prepare your garden. In this weekend’s copy of the Sunday Independent Gerry Daly writes about everything from improving your soil to what he loves about growing, all in a free garden booklet.

Regarding the old site, is it completely gone now as I have alot of photos albums on it that I would still like to have. Also will there be photo albums on this site like before?

Most of you already know that I have this Clivia miniata a good few years now. It doesn’t reward me with very many flowers EVER, but then, what do you expect from something thats needs are constantly ignored. However, it’s doing its thing right now, and it has come at a good time after all the recent snow and not being able to get out much.
This journal is more or less a test, to see how this new site is behaving. Having one or two problems at the moment with seeing comments on people’s journals. But I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it eventually.

Ok, I have absolutely NO IDEA how to post a photo.

If the special lady in your life loves gardening, why not give her a gift she will remember every time the magazine pops through the letterbox.

Wishing it every success 🤞👍🏻

Garden.ie is renewed!

We are very pleased to present the new version of Garden.ie … Ireland’s biggest and most popular garden website.

After 10 years the technology of the old version had become clunky … why it was built in the era when smart phones had not been invented!

But now you can access Garden.ie on your smartphone, and any other platform!

All the comprehensive range of features is still there … and, of course, the Garden.ie Club complete with Journals Archive.

And photos are a doddle to load.

There are some small teething troubles for which we ask your forebearance … and please let us know about any problems you are experiencing … so we can have them fixed.

Enjoy the new Garden.ie!

And the latest issue of The Irish Garden is on sale now!

Gerry

No, nothing in the garden … at least as far as I can see from the windows. Apologies for not posting/testing for nearly the past week but I’ve got a dose of a cold/chest infection and start wheezing whenever I try to do anything productive! Will get back asap. I got out for a few minutes this morning and unwrapped the fleece from Daphne ‘Jacqueline Postill’ which seems to have survived though looking rather sorry for itself; time will tell. I also unfleeced the greenhouse plants but keeping it handy in case it needs to go on again. The smaller and more tender plants from the greenhouse are still in the utility room and will stay there a few days longer. I hope your gardens haven’t fared badly.

Its been an eventful end to February 2018 and beginning of March 2018…..

We have had the Beast from the East meet Storm Emma and those two together certainly whipped up a storm filled with lots and lots of snow! Didn’t we enjoy it though…..thaw on the way so nice to get back to some gardening again….but for now here are a few photos of my garden under all that snow!

We went out this morning for a walk in what was dreadful conditions. We didn’t realise from being indoors and only in areas around the house just how heavy the snow was. On the road we came on four/five foot drifts of snow. Also, around the garden it is becoming evident that a large number of evergreen have been badly damaged. My lovely camellia at the bottom of the lane has had a number of branches broken off and a Colletia that must be thirty years old has snapped in two. There will be plenty of clearing up after the snow has melted.

Rain showers have started now, but it looks unlikely that we will get into town for another couple of days.
