Strokestown Park

The beautifully restored 6 acre georgian walled garden complex gives a unique insight into horticultural practices and garden architecture from the 1740s to the present day. The pleasure garden boasts a herbaceous border which is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest in Britain and Ireland. You will see the summer house where Olive Pakenham Mahon is photographed with her governess in the early 1900s, croquet lawn,pond and Venetian windows (folly). All the produce grown in the fruit and vegetable garden is used in our restaurant. You will see old farm machinery, the oldest restored glasshouse in Ireland dating to 1780, the sunken pit where the pineapples used to grow, Tower where people viewed the deer hunt and the King Harmon gate, made as a wedding gift bby the workers on the King Harmon estate for Olive Pakenham Mahon and Edward King Harmon
