Gardens Open

It takes a generous person to open their garden to the public for the enjoyment of others. Here Garden.ie lists about 300 gardens open for visiting, some year-round, others by appointment, and be sure to phone ahead.

The Penultimate Garden

After a lifetime making gardens in different habitats, here the artist Katherine Nixon collates her experience over the seven acres between a drumlin and the tidal Dorn, an inlet of Strangford Lough. At the heart of these lies a courtyard garden sheltering some tender and many scented subjects. It wraps around the artist’s sculpture and painting studios.

Across the road is a thriving permacultural smallholding. It comprises woodland, wetland and meadow, which sustain increasing numbers of wildlife. Panoramic views from the top of the drumlin are well worth the climb.
