Humble Herb Talk with Dr Nicolas Kats
The 39th Clifden Arts Festival takes place from 15 to 25 September 2016. This 10-day festival features over 200 diverse events with an exciting programme filled to the brim with artists, writers, poets, theatre, music and visual art spectacles. Once again, the fascinating US naturopathic doctor and licensed acupuncturist, Nicolas Kats will give an informative, engaging Herb Talk which will enchant visitors.

 

Tag Des Gartens

Between 4 and 6 September 2016, spoga+gafa will transform Cologne into a global marketplace for everything needed for outdoor living. This year will see around 2,000 exhibitors from around 60 countries exhibit their outdoor innovations at the world’s leading trade fair for the garden and leisure industry. After its successful premiere, Tag Des Gartens, the garden exhibition for everyone will take place in Hall 8 and the adjacent Rheinpark on 3 and 4 September.

Gardens of Cork tour with Jimi Blake

 

 

The gardens to be visited are Fruitlawn Garden, Co. Laois, Blarney Castle Gardens, Bruno Nicolai’s garden and Hester Forde’s garden. Cost of trip is 220 per person and this includes travel by coach, lunch at Arthur Shackleton’s garden, all entrance fees and guided tours with garden owners and Jimi Blake. Accommodation in Cork on the night of 15 September, evening meal and lunch in Blarney are not included. Wexford’s Veg Patch

Michelle and Mervyn Morrison sell fresh vegetables directly to restaurants and food outlets, and now to the larger community. The Veg Patch is located in Effernoge, Ferns, producing all the vegetables that are for sale using only organic methods of production. Details can be found on www.thevegpatch.net and delivery is weekly to central county Wexford. Prices start at 12.50 per box and there is some flexibility in placing orders but for efficiency sake, certain seasonal staples are included, and tailoring an order is also an option.

Heritage Gardens Conference

 

Northern Ireland Heritage Gardens Trust and the Office of Public Works has announced the dates for the next conference on 7 to 9 October. The well-established 3-day format will again be adopted with the topic of Commemoration Gardens and Gardening at the exciting venue of Dublin Castle.

 

Russborough Restoration

The 18th century walled garden at Russborough House, Blessington, Co. Wicklow is being restored by members of the RHSI. In 2011 members of the RHSI came on board to restore it to its former glory. With improvements made to date, it is hoped that in 2017 many foreign visitors will be able to take a guided tour of the garden given by members of the RHSI.
