Spent all morning trying to clear a decent pathway in the garden centre, which doesn’t have a canopy. Treacherous walking conditions. Got the whole place done, and now my shoulder blades are aching. I cleared it as much for myself as for the customers. Buddy followed me all morning. So he was treated to lots of birdseed. I actually managed to work up a sweat clearing the pathway. I couldn’t water the indoor plants as the tap outside was frozen solid. After lunch, I noticed a considerable drop in temperature outside. At that stage, it was pelting snow all over the path that I had just cleared. And to top it all, the pipes outside had just burst and the water was turning to ice in front of my very eyes.

I closed the garden centre at 2.30. Too treacherous.

Drove back from Roscommon this afternoon. The main roads and motorway are fine , the small country roads are the worst so care is needed.I brought back some Carnation’s I have rooted in small pots, and also some Grape Hyacinth, I planted some of the bulbs in pots…so if anyone  wants  some I will take them with me on Saturday

I took this pic this morning, I think we must have had a little visitor during the night  judging by the prints in the snow

We live on the bottom of a very steep road and if the bollards are not unlocked we are stuck in until all the snow melts, so in the meantime Adults and children just have fun.

my twin and i celebrated our birthday at Maccreddin Village in Wicklow, spent two days there pamparing ourselves.

we came home on the 26th and it appeared that all hell broke loose after i returned.

thank god i got back before the ‘snows’ and ten inches on the way for tomorrow along the east coast, we have an ‘artic lunge’ so the met office say!

Olympic i say!

sorting out christmas on a string or two.

i have decided to collect all my old ‘bunty comics from my childhood days and make wee origami envelopes and popping seeds from the yardenette into em for pressies for friends etc and family too, its Peace on Earth time, after all!

twin and i sold our tiny town house just in time, as we are nearing 60 we feel damn lucky as we feel the depression will last us out…

now on the search for our ‘forever home’

we are quite excited about prospects of safety and a nice bigh garden either owned between us or we separate and have two!

another start, late in life yes, but thats all for the variety of it too.

our older sis called round to me today and then over to the twino  and she drove the twin over to me, which was really lovely.

sis is up to her eyes in snow and she too runs a riding establishment and i bet its tough down there at the moment.

sis is preparing for the second hip op.

she did brill on the first worked hard, very hard to get it all back in shape and she was great there.

so i am crossing my fingers for this second one.

not a lot of news, i have the whole population of the house sparrow population in my yardenette, and today is the first day of birdwatch ireland garden survey project which they do every year, i think i shall do it too.

all the best,

ann

Around mid-day yesterday we went for a walk in Brackloon Woods, which is a 10 minute walk from our house.   We were the only people in there and for no reason at all (probably because of the sheer wonder of the scene before us) we both broke into singing ‘walking in a winter wonderland’ – poor birds probably wondered what was going on!!   Why did ‘they’ have to ruin this naturally beautiful scenic Ireland, why couldn’t ‘they’ have been happy with their lot, instead of chasing ‘the root of all evil’.

Woke up this morning, just the same frost as the last few days. Stood up after breakfast to get ready to go out and all was changed, snow pouring down. It’s almost stopped now, but activities for the day have been cancelled. That’s the great thing about being retired, you have a choice about most things.

This wintery weather has certainly provided some fabulous sunsets over the last couple of days. Temperature here was just above freezing yesterday with so a bit of a thaw, roads were not great once you left the main roads. On returning from Monaghan around 4pm the sunset was just amazing had to capture it on camera, this weather means most riders won’t travel so while waiting to here from those who hadn’t cancelled took this sunset shot from stable yard thought the trees against the vibrant colours was spectacular. Wonder will today’s be as good lovely and sunny here with a breeze little snow over night it is beautiful but not good for business so hope it changes soon.
