What type of fertiliser should i use for my veg patch i have my own compost i don’t think that is enough though

You may well be right. Garden compost tends to lack potash and plants may grow very soft if large quantities are used.
The land in Meath is mostly a bit heavy but fertile.
You could spread about 50gm/squate metre of a general fertilizer, with the NPK ratio roughly 7-7-7, or a bit higher in potash, which is the K, at 0-10-20 if your compost is rich. Different products vary on Apply this a couple of weeks before sowing and rake it in.
If you feel growth is still not great, use it again in subsequent years and fertility will build up.
