crab apple tree disease

geraldine kennedy asked 15 years ago

I have recently noticed a white “shaving foam” type covering on the branches of my crab apple tree. I presume its a type of fungus. Any idea what it is & how I can treat it. I have plum & apple trees nearlyby-could it spread?

This is probably woolly aphid, a form of greenfly. If you crush this woolly growth, you will get red juice from the greenflies.

This pest only affects apple trees and ornamental crabapples, not pears or plums.

Spray with a systemic insercticide such as Bugclear.
