Fruit, Cherry Tree

ceaser asked 13 years ago

M&S sold “Napoleon cherries” as a pack of fruit. They were the nicest cherries i ever tasted. I did a little research online and came across a cherry tree called “Bigarreau Napoleon”. Is this the only cherry tree with the Napoleon name? im trying to make sure i get the right tree.

‘Bigarreau Napoleon’ is the variety. But this is not the most successful in this climate, more attuned to Kent or even Belgium where there is more sunshine and warmer weather.

It needs a pollinator, and ‘Stella’, which is a more reliable variety, is suitable. Finally, it will likely be necessary to net the trees to prevent birds from taking all the fruit, especially pigeons.
