I have lavender plants in tubs in my front garden and one plant in my main garden I want to prune these but am not sure how tight do I cut them as over the last couple of years I have been unsuccessful in keeping my lavender plants alive the last one I had was a butterfly lavender plant these ones are ordinary plants

Lavender needs very free-draining soil to last well.
Clip over lightly when the flowers have gone but not back into bare stems.
