Leaves dropping from Cherry Tree.

mebh O\’Brien asked 15 years ago

Our 35-year old winter flowering cherry tree is looking very sparse, and is dropping leaves. There are also holes in most of the leaves. I have mulched and watered it a few weeks ago, but the leaves are still dropping. As it is in a very important location for us, we are worried that it may have reached the end of it’s life. Please can you advise?

Cheery trees of this age often are affected by bacterial canker, silver leaf or blossom wilt disease, the first and last causing the ‘shot-hole’ effect on the leaves.

These diseases can cause die-back of branches and eventually kill the tree, but sometimes a tree rallies and lasts for a time. Is it get too unsightly, remove it.
