Raised beds

Making raised beds at the moment and i was wondering what type of soil should i put them because the soil in the ground is stony. Should i put multi purpose compost or or something different?

It is not necessary to make raised beds to grow vegetables.

Vegetables can be grown on the flat, on drills and on beds with retaining sides.

Raised beds can be an advantage on heavy clay soils that are slow to warm up in spring, but they can be inclined to dry out and need watering.

Improve the existing soil with plenty of organic material, or get some good topsoil locally.

Multipurpose compost is way too expensive for this purpose, except on a very small scale.
