Removing camellia shrub

D\’Ana O\’Donoghue asked 16 years ago

Hi, there’s a large camellia shrub that I’d like to remove in my garden. It’s growing amongst several other shrubs and I’m afraid if I disturb the soil around the roots too much it could kill the other plants. Also, the roots have come above ground in several places and I’d like to pave the area…is my only option going in and taking out the roots as carefully as possible?

If you just want rid of it, cut it off at soil level and treat the cut surfcae with undiluted Roundup to kill the stump and prevent re-growth.

If you want to move it, you will need to disturb roots of other plants, but these usually recover if the soil is put back with delay.
