should I prune laburnum

Anne Jackson asked 13 years ago

I have a laburnum 5 years old it is thriving and had lots of blooms this year. Now it is looking wild and I’m wondering can it be pruned and if so when is best time to do this. Will it affect blooms for next year?

In general laburnum doe snot need pruning. But a specimen can sometimes be a bit gangly and if you think its shape could be improved by shortening some shoots, do so after flowering.

Some light pruning to shape will not affect flowering.
