slugs

Ailish McGrath asked 15 years ago

Are there such things as “slug proof” low growing shrubs and plants. I have a “bank” at the rear of my small garden, backing onto a public park, and I am mithered with slugs. They seem to eat everything I try to grow. Any suggestions? i am broke buying pellets and beer!!!

There are no slug-proof plants but there are very few plants that are very susceptible to slugs and snails … all plants are susceptible to some degree but few that are very badly damaged. These include hosta, ligularia, dahlia, magnolia and lobelia.

But most plants, when small, can be damaged … the trick is to get them through the early phase.
