Hi Gerry. I have just built my dream home in the country on a large (3/4 acre) site. We laid the lawns last year but don’t know what to do with the boundry ditches as they are covered in brambles. Any low cost suggestions?

Brambles are wild blackberries, briars are wild roses, but people call brambles briers!

Cut them back with a slash hook … low cost, high exercise value … making sure to wear eye protection. The roots are then dug out with a spade or when they re-grow, spray with Roundup.

You can also just spray them as they are but you will have a lot of dead thorny stems. If they are out in the field from the ditch, get in a digger for a couple of hours to rip them out.
