I have an Andromeda Polifolia Compacta which had lovely white/pink flowers in May/June. These are in the pots which I bought them in. Over the past month or two the plants have gone very twiggy and long and have turned a brownish colour. Is this dead do you think? If not should I sow them in the garden.
could you please identify the attached for me?.Also how is it propagated?
I planted a choisya aztec pearl 2 years ago and it has barely grown. I'm a fairly keen gardener and have kept an eye on it. There are some yellowish leaves but they're not very strong. Soil would be quite dense and we suffer with quite strong coastal winds
I dug up my varigated cordyline as it was killed by frost as I thought! there are now shoots growing out of the root ball. Can I just plant the root ball in a pot in fresh compost or what is the best way to save it.
When is it best to move a rhododendrum and how do i prune it.
When and how can I transplant Skimmia?
We planted some large (10ft) evergreens in April. My husband watered them regularly - maybe too regularly. They are orange now. Are they dead? Can we revive them?
Can I plant Bay laurel directly in the ground. I would prefer not to keep it in a pot. I live in Dublin 6, and we are relatively frost free.
15 yr old Cedrus deodara Aurea has started to lose its needles from lower branches and branches are dying back. It is a lovely specimen tree. The whole tree looks much paler than usual. This condition started during the winter months. Other shrubs in nearby beds are fine and our soil is acidic which I think cedars like.
a friend taking down a big conifer (1 1/2m high) from her garden. can i save it and move it into my garden? will it survive the move? any suggestions as to protecting roots and dehydration?
I have some beautiful Lavandula angustifolia blooming in a particular bed in my garden, however it does encroach on a slabbed footpath and tends to get damaged by my ride-on everytime i mow the grass, my intention is to relocate them to a new circular bed in which i planted a 'Pineapple Broom' tree just this year, when and how should i transplant them without affecting the plant health too much?
We have recently reclaimed an area of ground along side an existing native hedge. Basically it was a very wet area so we put in drainage covered over with stones and them top soil on top. I would love to plant up a woodland area with a winding path running down its length but have no idea where to start. Weeds are spreading rapidly, its clay soil and quite a shady area?
We have a large and very old rhododendron and want to remove it and put a greenhouse on the site. We understand that the roots are probably very deep and far-reaching, but a professional gardener friend has said that if we get out as much of the root as possible and then check regularly all around the greenhouse for re-growth it will not be a problem to zap the growth with Roundup or similar. The person who is going to do the work says he will grind out as much of the stump as he can. Should we lay the greenhouse on concrete (not recommended by another gardener friend) or railway sleepers (recommended), and can we expect the Rhododendron roots to eventually lift the greenhouse off its moorings!
I have a medium size bay tree, and want to move it, when is the right time to move it and how do i go about it?
I moved a bottle washer plant as it was crushed among larger trees in my garden, the sun wasnt getting at it so it turned very brown and withered lots, slowly the tops of the leaves are looking healthy again and ive noticed some new shoots at the very base...do you think i should cut it back down to the base or would that be too much or leave it alone,im feeding it with miracle grow.
