Pruning a Japanese maple??

Susan Northcote asked 16 years ago

Every description of Japanese Maple says “small tree”. Not so, mine in Glengarriff – see picture! It is a beautiful specimen but can I prune some of the lower branches to reduce some of the width to allow the azaleas either side to have a bit more space or would I be putting it at risk? Suzie
