Bare root hornbeams

Conor Clinch asked 13 years ago

I’ve just planted 200 bare root hornbeams. The plants seem tall (100-120) compared to the size of their small rootball. Should I prune them now to give them a better chance of survival? If yes by how much (33%, 50%)?

You could prune by one-third, but you can also let them take their chances. If the root ball cannot cope, the trees will die back to a suitable height naturally.
