Dierrama failing.

Deirdre Cusack asked 14 years ago

My Dierrama which is about 5 years old, was flowering very well until last year, when it had fewer flowers than usual. This year there were a lot of dead leaves , most of which I pulled. It now looks rather scrawny, and one third its former size. It is planted in clay soil, facing south west, and this area gets very dry in summer. Would extra watering and feeding improve the plant, or should I buy a new one? I hope you can advise me.

Dierama likes welldrained soil but does not like to be too dry. It is possible that the plant was not under pressure as a small plant but now is more congested.

Try moving it to another spot  in spring, not as dry and full sunshine. It will take some time to adapt to a new place as it dislikes to be disturbed.
