Insects on Dahlia

Lorraine asked 15 years ago

I have recently bought a dahlia and planted it in my garden, while watering it the other night I noticed a lot of insects crawling all over the petals, I can only describe them as very similar to silverfish.Do you know what they are and how I can get rid of them as they are eating the plant alive

These sound like thrips, very small insects in large numbers sometimes. They cause reduced growth and flecking. You could try a strong jet of water or if you want to spray use a systemic insecticide and wet the whole plant.
