Hi Gerry, i am a totally new to gardening, hope to change this in the near future. I need help with the surrounding concrete slab walls of my back garden (25ft x 55ft, east facing) i want to plant a type of Ivy/creeper that will give a very good coverage and is evergreen. I have 2 children under 3 yrs and a large dog, so the plant also needs to be non poisonious.I would love if you could help me !!! Michelle

Climbing plants, such as clematis, roses, ivy and potato vine, can be trained to wires or trellis. Wall shrubs such as pyracantha, chaenomeles and cotoneaster can be tied back to a wall and pruned to size.
The idea should be to be able to still see much of the wall, so that the wall becomes backdrop that sets off the plants and the plants ‘soften’ the appearance of the wall.
Wall plants do not have to be evergreen … to cover all the walls with evergreen creeper such as ivy will just change the colour from grey to green, but will be almost as uninteresting.
