My son has recently bought a house in Bagnelstown, Co. Carlow. It has a huge garden, with good alkaline soil & some old fruit trees. They are quite wild now, and he wants to plan a new orchard for the future. Could you tell me which varieties would be best, as they have to be ordered soon i.e.of apples, cherries, plums, eating pears.Nothing too high, so the fruit can be picked easily, say 10 feet or so, and what about pollinators? We're really new to this. I would appreciate some help before we order, as it is such a long-term thing.
I would like to know what do i do with blackcurrant bushes after picking fruit ?
We are not sure what type of apple trees we are growing but they are young, they are at a max. of 12". There is white fur growing on the leaves, it is not on the bark as suggested in so many other people's blog. Is this a fungus, should I be worried. It doesn't seem to be doing any harm I just don't know what it is?
