For some years Fir trees in my garden (Dark Green Pines) and had brown areas and areas of no growth. Have cleared back a lot of this part of garden to give more light to these trees however it now appears that I have lost more growth on the trees. About 70% of the tree is now brown and has no green pines whatsoever. Is this tree unfortunatley dying in your opinion? I can supply photos if this would help.
Our escallonia hedge is losing its leaves again this year due to leaf spot, this happened at the end of summer 2009 also. Is there anything we can do to stop this. We have this type of hedge for many years and thought the loss of leaves was due to the wet summer 2009 but we had a much better summer this year. What can we do to fix.
My two bay leaf trees are infested with little insects buried in the underside of the leaves, the leaves are turning black, they are very small, I did't notice them for a long time. They can be scraped away but there are so many now they are killing my trees. I have talked to a number of my neighbours who are having similar issues, I have tried, removing them by srapping, wiping clean with water and cloth, replanting in fresh soil, feeding them, plant feed, nothing is working, I'm afraid to use pestisides without expert advise as I don't want to damage the trees anymore than they are. I'm now afraid they will both die. Is there a specific safe product that I can use to kill them and bring my plants back to life.
My fuschia that i planted this year in my garden (was previously in a pot) has black stains on the leaves. It did not flowered as it did the previous years. I would say only 2% of flowers showed up. Is that a disease? any remedy?
We have a problem with trees browning and shedding lots of needles. We have Cypress (i think thats the name) trees on 3 sides of our house, they are probably 25-35ft high and are a great barrier against the weather. I am not sure when they were planted, we moved in 8 years ago and they were well established then. We haven't ever really watered them, the rain seemed to be adequate, but maybe because this year has been so dry and with the hard winter they seem to be suffering? Can you help with some advice?
This year our 50 year old Scots pine has brown sections of needles. So do others on our road. What do you think may be the problem?
I have an avenue of yew trees planted six years. They are 4m tall now. Two trees in the row have been yellowing on the inside and the new growth looks fine. It leaves these two trees looking sparse and tired. I am told this is a known condition but have been unable to find out what it is.
Several shrubs and trees have died, slowly, over the last two / three years - viburnum, ornamental plum, mallow, japanese maples, fuschia - photograph shows fungus on the mallow, no sign of honey fungus fungi, bootlaces etc., - other symptom is deep cracking / splitting along branches. All are in the front garden and relatively close. Starts with die-back of parts of shrub/tree and continues. Any ideas or suggestions?
The leaves and branches on my 20 year old skimmia are yellowing and dying off, also this years berry crop is shrivelling, any idea what the problem could be?
I have 3 rowan trees in a hedge one of which is very healthy. The second,I believe is dead & third looks poorly(yellow leaves on some branches)The dead tree's bark seems to have peeled off around much of the trunk and wood lice are in abundance -the outer bark has white marks on it-All 3 trees are within 50ft of each other & have been very healthy up to this year. Please advise-thanks
Third August in a row that 10 yr old boxwood hedge 40ft X 10ft with diamonds in between has got blight or the new boxwood disease. Last year, cut it back, feed it, gave it Fertalive. Recovered a good bit just in time for the August onslaught. (No potatoes in garden btw.) Back again like clockwork! Each year a bit worse. Very disappointed! Any suggestions or advice on what to plant instead of it.
I have a weeping willow tree which is five years old and is doing very well except for the fact that there are caterpillars in it. How do I get rid of them and also there are bumps on some of the leaves.
Earlier this week my clematis ('Avant Garde', 2 years old in my garden) which was growing in a pot succumbed to clematis wilt. I have cut all stems to soil level. What do I do now in terms of the affected pot: do I change the soil/compost completely and hope that it will recover?
