I live in the countryside & the farmer in the field beside my house planted wheat crop this year. All my flowers/fruit & fruit bushes have hundreds upon hundreds of greenfly. I have planted flowers which help to attract insects to kill the greenfly, these flowers have been consumed by the greenfly. I spayed with soapy water, garlic water, organic spray & harsh chemical spray-none have worked. My sunflowers are disgusting, there is more green than yellow, my uncle (who is an avid gardener) was amazed at the amount of them. The farmer is sowing barley next year, will this infestation occur next year too?
I have found what is referred to as "cuckoo spit" on many of my garden plants. Is this damaging my plants and how do I deal with it?
I have a 14 year old pond that has worked well. Last year it was perfect! Clear water, healthy fish and beautiful water lillies all summer. But this year it is a mess. Very overgrown, muddy, no fish ( perhaps heron got them or else they are dead at the bottom), very few flowers on the lillies and they are all speckled with what looks like grey dust.....and worst of all lots of bluebottles! Should I empty it and start again? I have no pumps or filters.
I have new raised flower beds and every time i go out of the house my dog {a jack russell } jumps in and digs up some of my flowers he does not eat them but just digs them up and sleeps in the soil how can i stop him from doing this as it is costing me a fortune in the replacing of the flowers.
why are there so many greenfly out today and what to do to get rid of them. They are like something out of the movie killer bees please help.
Ants eating leaves on sunflower ..how could i stop this ?
With the warm weather, these little red creatures, that race over hot surfaces like concrete window cills and more annoyingly garden table tops and leave behind an impressive red marking when rubbed dead, are alive and well again, in droves. I think they are not red spider mite. They might be lice (at least six legs, nrs 7 and 8 probably antennae). (I have searched the Net throught all corners, but couldn't find anything. Do you know, what are they, how to fight them?
As a chef i have access to unlimited amount of eggshells which i find the best deterent for slugs.however, is it possible that using too many could be harmful to the soil/plants ?
My Bergenias have very large holes eaten in them. There is no evidence of slug/snail about them.
Where can I find an electronic device to deter cats and dogs off lawn.. preferably one that works and not too expensive!
I noticed small light brown grubs on two of my containers of plants the containers mainly had pansy in them. I dumped them in the bin and I noticed that the pest were down to the roots in the soil. What were these and what caused it. I have several containers but only two were affected so far!
