I planted approx.100 privet cuttings almost 2 years ago and they are now well established. I have a very mature calliestemon plant on south facing front wall of house. Possibly 8 feet tall badly hit by frost. No evidence yet of any new growth from base, possibly dead. What should I do, haven't pruned yet at all. How far back can I go. Have taken seeds off also, know they won't come true but if can't rejuvanate original would like to give it a go. Do they need any special condtions to germinate, stratification, temp etc. Any advice on how to prune back and what feed would be most helpful.
I wish to plant a laurel or holly hedge along a post and rail fence, The area is already in grass, What is the best way to prepare the ground for planting?
I've completely removed an 86 foot long escallonia hedge. I've decided on Laurel as a replacement. Which is the best choice, bare root (2 Euros apx per plant) or potted (3.50 upwards per plant). As I'm investing alot of time and energy on this project, I want to make the right decision. Finally, how far apart would you recommend.
Would it be possible to move a mahonia now? I was waiting for the soil to heat up and afraid to move it on account of night frosts?
Have 1/2 acre front garden. Purchased barerooted birch to plant inside an existing beech hedge at the front of garden. The hedge is approximately 2 metres from the road verge. The intention is to create an area to plant woodland bulbs and maybe a walk through environment. Can you please suggest spacing and would you recommend planting in groups or in zig zag fashion?

My garden is about 40 ft square and I would like to place trees for shelter from neighbouring houses at the back. As I have a shed at the back wall I would only have to cover about 30ft with trees. I would like to buy as mature as possible, but don't want to have problems in the future with cutting back. The back wall faces south but can be breezy.
